Run #2473

06/07/2026
Broadbridge Heath
-
#2473 : The Shelley Arms, Broadbridge Heath - Finding us towards the northwest corner of our patch, and coupled with a number of hashers away on holidays, numbers were a little low, buoyed by the last-minute arrival of Beat The Barman and Local Knowledge (the only walkers, in fact) and Private Dancer. With Wilds Thing having not hared for some time he had wanted someone to co-hare with him to go over it, but alas had ended up with Bouncer πŸ˜€ With on out called on the hour, and a quick (but still rather lengthy given the 11 in total) chalk talk, and noting that the first mark lay under the pizza van that was alas going at 8, on out was called E along Old Guildford Rd, turning N up the footpath, into the fields and to the corner of Robin Hood Ln. True trail turned W, along the lane instead of under the A24, cutting through NW to Bailing Hill / Goose Green and the fields of deer that accompanied the Nature Reserve. Once through, trail continued W to Farlington School (around - no-one took the optional SCB route that I am aware of) then turned off onto Nowhurst Ln. A wrong check here would see LS and myself passing the campsite before turning back to find true trail on Cooks Ln, where FH at the end saw Ride It Baby as #3 and LS and myself as #4/#5 (on a FH for 4), although most would wonder why RIB was doing it instead πŸ˜€ Turning off of Cooks Ln, trail would turn slight E of S to aim back at Broadbridge Heath, finally turning fully E to Charrington Way Rec Ground before picking up Old Guildford Rd and On Inn.

Back at the pub, grub (in the form of a sandwich and sausage roll platter) would be laid on by the pub, LS and myself tucking into a pizza she had managed to snag from the van just before they were going. And, with all eleven of us gathered around a single table, call to circle up was met with an immediate 'well done', and it was noted that this was the first hash from this pub. Those assembled were asked their thoughts on the r*n which was resoundingly positive. First DD, to "Here's to the Hares" to WT and Bouncer, with it noted that WT had last hared on hash #2241, or 24th January 2022! Next up, the late addition of the walkers (no sign-up, no route!) earned Beat the Barman a DD to "Down Down Song". Then, before moving on, a little Lost Property - pulling a jacket slowly out of my pocket (to strip tease music), a cycling jacket quickly identified as Ride It Baby's jacket; left at the Rising Sun, Bouncer then suggested the Japanese-style 'Campi' down-down, asking if she was at that one. Erm - how do you think her jacket ended up there!? A D'Oh moment from Bouncer there! πŸ˜€ Campi-style DD as requested. With the football fresh in everyone's mind (England 3, Mexico 2), Just George (as a Spaniard - close enough) was called up for a losers DD to an abbreviated version of "10, 9, 8", instead starting at 3 to reflect the 3-2 win! Next up, his dad (Whose Shout) for "Bad, Bad, Bad" in being a typical accountant and not paying for Just George last week. And finally, so that everyone got a DD (except LK with his wine and me as RA) Angel, for being polite at every fishhook and letting the sweaty, erm, I mean front r*nners through; LS, for joining me in silliness and being 4/5 at the FH for 4 and racing back passed RIB; and Private Dancer, erm, just because everyone else had a DD! With that, details for next week were relayed (Airman memorial hared by Pompette from The Cock Inn) and the hash was closed with the usual toast. Not wanting food to go to waste, Bouncer managed to efficiently organise all the leftover sausage rolls into LS's pizza box for Angel and the kids! - Nasty Nips
