Run #2475
20/07/2026
Brighton
This is a BYO event - please bring your own beer, food and a chair. And, if you should fancy a dip in the sea afterwards, probably some manner of swimming costume.
#2475 : Martlets Kayak Club, Brighton - With Jaws out with food poisoning the job of haring the evening had fallen instead to myself. And so, with map in hand but little idea of actually where we would be going, circle was called and apologies extended from the absent hares for both their lack of attendance and also the lack of the promised sip. On Out would be called straight over the Volks Railway and onto the boardwalk with a turn E. Trail would continue along, through the new underpass into Asda car park (where we seemed to collect a few local children) and zigzag up the path to the A259 (the incline would see us swiftly lose the aforementioned children). Trail continued E along the clifftop path, over the A259 at the lights, N up the footpath to Roedean Rd, and turning N through the gate before the golf club. The footpath would be followed NE / N, hugging the edge of the woods (then through them), turning back E after the campsite, and over to Wilson Ave. A windy, step-heavy, trail here would see the pack taken down Wiston Rd, cutting through to (and straight over) Nuthurst Pl, then through to / straight over Nuthurst Cl, around Findon Rd and W to Whitehawk Way, then up Whitehawk Rd and yet more steps up to Whitehawk Crescent. A straight run down Manor Rd almost to the bottom before a turn ENE back uphill through to Bristol Gate, down by RSCH, Sudeley Place and on to the Kemptown Chippy on St Georges Rd. On Inn (for those r*nning back with beer and chips in hand) would be down Paston Pl, over the A259 and down the steps back to the MKC and the seafront, with several hashers partaking in a dip before the DDs.
With everyone gathered outside the MKC, I had already started to pour out DDs from the drinks provided by Shirker as freebies from the club fridge, leftover from their previous BBQs, when Rebel approached me and wondered if I'd seen some Ghost Ship? Ah... It turns out that not ALL of the fridge beers were MKC leftovers! Rebel, reunited with his beers (in part), took a seat and hush called for. With no notes, doing this completely on the fly before Shaun (who had opened for us and joined us for the hash) left, I opted to press record on my phone instead... We'll see how that went as I write the rest of this! π It was noted again that, obviously, tonight's hash had kind of gone awry because Jaws was supposed to set it and he had caught food poisoning AND he had suffered a blowout on his car so he couldn't bring the sip stop down. That said, Jaws had done a really good job of marking it on the Sunday. And so a quick toast to the absent hares. First up - hares of the evening, Whose Shout who backmarked for the r*nners, On On Don for the wa*kers (two of them ultimately turning into six), and myself; DDs to "Here's to the Hares". Next up, Shaun from MKC who unlocked especially for us; Shaun seemed confused at this point that my phone wasn't recording when simply the screen was now off!; DD to "Why Was He Born So Beautiful?" Moving on, and recounting how Shirker had passed the 'free' drinks out and Rebel had ultimately lost his, it seemed obvious that the 'stupid' offenders should both come up for DDs. Of note also from Bouncer was that Rebel had forgotten the Hash Horn this evening and so was caught whistling instead, but appeared flustered when Oral Hooker had 'offered him a hand'! In fact, Rebel himself had started telling this story to Bouncer, abruptly stopping when realised who he was talking to π Next up, joining the others in the sea for a post-hash dip, Just Dave turning up in (what Bouncer referred to as) his grandma's old nighty, but also attached a little floating bag just in case he got lost out there. But to keep the whole thing hashy he did actually go out there beer in hand; DD to "He's alright". Then it was announced that we had a visitor, Madame Satanne, who's actually a local but back temporarily from Austin, Texas; DD to "The Seagulls". And then regular EGH3 attendees Bouncer and Angel, for seemingly avoiding BH7 of late for EG hashes (an attempt to argue found Angel quickly realising it was just last week they had EG'd on a 'personal invite'), joined by RIB for (having previously wiped out half a spreadsheet) entering herself multiple times on the sign-in sheet, and joined also by Just Martin; DDs to "10, 9, 8".
Now, at this point I was ready to sit down and enjoy a beer but luckily Little Swinger was there to keep me in check because there were still two tankards to do. Usually we'd wait until someone hares but I'd been carrying one around for a while, and this person always, always, always stumps up and will set if there's any issues going on and stuff, and so finally Shirker was awarded his 100th hash tankard. The second tankard would go to Wilds Thing, who (on his hash the other week from Broadbridge Heath) said 'it's the first time I've hared in ages' (his last before that being in 2022!), and then he goes 'Oh yeah, I can probably get my tankard now'... His hundredth hash actually being on the 28th of March 2022. Racism note (from WT himself): He'd actually managed to do 100 marathons in less time; DDs for both to "Get a Life".
On On Don would then announce the details for next week with some dubious parking recommendations (parking up and down the road, in the car park, or Waitrose, or anywhere you can generally) - more details in the email - and the AGPU announced as 8th August at the White Horse, Ditchling, 2pm onwards (but get there earlier if you want to get lunch and have a general chat).
And on that note, glasses were raised in a toast to the hash - Nasty Nips
(Post-re-hash note: Boy did the transcriber get a lot of that wrong! Luckily the recording was easy to make out, but weirdly the transcriber dropped all the songs...)
