Run #2360

06/05/2024
Steyning
May Bank Holiday; 19:00 start. The kitchen is closed but the Khushbu curry place in Bramber does delivery, or there is a chip shop a short distance away and the pub are happy to bring food in, although it may be best to bring plates and cutlery.
#2360 - The Star Inn, Steyning - What odd questions have been asked on hashes? Perhaps today's 'Who knew slugs liked sawdust?' was not one that would have popped into your head! Featuring a guest appearance from Bollocks (visiting from France), the hash found themselves following a trail set in a mix of marks, including the lesser-used sawdust. And so, the hash set off NW along High St / Mouse Ln, turning SW onto the footpath and then back NW into the fields and parallel to Mouse Ln. Straight over the footpath and continuing NW parallel to Mouse Ln and SW (following footpath and parallel now to Lion Trail), with the fishhook here finding the first 4 FRBs headed back. Bouncer was heard to exclaim at this point 'Here is where it gets silly'; a comment that would a few minutes later be clear why... Continuing around, trail turned from SW to SE, seeing the w*lkers depart on the flat whilst the r*nners headed up the hill. At this point, that odd question would be asked as the sawdust dropped prior to the hash was attracting slugs, with some piles finding many miniature molluscs masking moist marks (NN: sorry, I just couldn't resist a little alliteration there!). The hill continued, getting steeper by the minute and with hashers sliding everywhere as the earlier rain had made the trail slippery, it was a route that even a mountain goat would think 'F*** that' to! Of course, with most hashers having an IQ less than a mountain goat, everyone carried on to the summit after a short Hold 3/4 of the way up (marked by Bollocks as a 'H' and not the usual 'RG'). Trail then continued S / SE joining Newham Ln SE until the footpath diverted off NE and followed until The Rifle Range, dropping S to the next footpath, and continuing a zig-zag back by dropping S again to the next footpath and on to Sip in the park just before Steyning Bowling Club. A quick circle was held at the Sip since there was (free) Harvey’s to be had. First up the hares - Bouncer and Bollocks - with DD to "Here's to the Hares"; followed next by ZZ Topless, Angel and Prince Crashpian for not fish-hooking - DD to "This is your DD song"; and lastly charges of racism were levied against Bonking Queen, Ride It Baby and Bollox for all completing the 3 Forts HM the day before Sunday (with BQ (driving) nominating Bouncer) - DD to "10,9,8". With circle closed, the walkers finally arrived... from the wrong direction! Grabbing a quick drink each, On Inn was called E along footpath to Charlton St, taking the footpath to High St and NW back to the pub. - Nasty Nips
