Run #2384

21/10/2024
Brighton
Trafalgar Day. New start time of 19:00.
#2384 The Lord Nelson Pub, Brighton - Trafalgar Day, celebrated on 21st October, fell on a Monday this year, and what better way to celebrate than to have a Mudlark-hared run around Brighton and its selection of nautical-themed pubs. And so a merry bunch of hashers set off E downhill out of the pub, S through Valley Gardens and down to the seafront, where trail would find the group led out onto the groyne with the doughnut (actually named 'Afloat' but not many people know that...), before continuing W along the arches and the first regroup outside the Fortune of War and overproofed rum offered during a mini-sip. Continuing on W along the arches, trail turned back up to the A259 just W of the i360 and ran through Preston Street, Regency Sq, Russell Square, Cannon Pl, Russell Rd, West St, Boyce's St and finally Middle St, with a second regroup outside the Victory Inn. Continuing on, ML called On On into Dukes Lane, Union Street, Meeting House Lane, over to New Rd and then through Pavilion Gardens to NE corner before turning W up Church St all the way to Queens Rd, where a FH7 lay in wait at the top. Continuing over and uphill on Church St to Mount Zion Pl where a second FH7 also lay. Turning into the alleyway to Centurion Rd, Guildford St and then the third regroup outside the Battle of Trafalgar pub on Guildford Rd where the r*nners would wait for the w*lkers. After a few minutes, it turned out that the w*lkers were already inside the pub and sat in the beer garden! On On Don came out with the sip bag, where a formal sip was held and the Loyal Toast was performed by BH7's very own Lieutenant Commander Liam (Imelda) Flatt RN; On Inn E downhill.

Back at the pub Bonking Queen had been nominated to RA, with Nasty Nips scribing. Hashers were asked their opinions on the trail before the hares (ML and Hash Gomi) were called up - DDs to "Frigging in the Rigging". Next up, the 'Best Dressed' award - judged by our very own officer Imelda, with the choices between the very nautically-dressed ML and Angel; a hard call to tell the difference in the cheers so DDs to both to "In The Navy". Next, the w*lkers were all charged for being tardy, and flogging was suggested as punishment. Bouncer 'volunteered' for the DD, to "10,9,8". And last up for the DDs were Rebel WHK, who had brought sandals to an October hash! Worse still, they weren't a pair. And they were both lefts! Joining him, Ride It Baby who had been heard to comment along the trail that it was 'a very nice back alley'... And then Nasty Nips, who had missed last week's hash due to an ankle issue and was then see racing with Private Dancer up the hills; DDs for all, using straws (and PD and RIB sharing), to "Why were they born so beautiful" (the straws are fast becoming a trademark BQ move). And finally, wrapping up the evening, Mudlark read out the poems 'Ode to the Tot' followed by 'The Tot Song', followed by Bouncer instigating a rather lengthy rendition of "What do we do with a drunken sailor". I (and many others assembled) never knew it had so many verses... And so ended another great hash. - Nasty Nips
